Backstage club
Boys are encouraged to develop their technical skills in theatre, working on a range of College productions as core members of the tech crew. They work with the lighting, sound, set, props and special effects, as well as developing management skills. This group is particularly busy at the start of Term 2 for the Senior Production and in Term 4 with the Junior Production.

Chess club
Players with a range of abilities 鈥 from new to experienced 鈥 can join our Chess Club. The club runs in Terms 2 and 3, meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunchtimes. Members can compete in the inter-school competition and benefit from an online tutor. College has enjoyed success at both regional and national levels. The very popular interhouse chess competition is held in Term 3.

Debating
Debating has a strong tradition at College, with several opportunities for boys to hone their skills. Both junior and senior inter-house competitions are held annually, with teams organised by senior students in each House. Boys can apply to represent College in inter-school competitions and also take part in school exchanges.

Kapa Haka
All boys are invited to join our kapa haka group every Thursday at 8.10am for an hour-long session with accomplished musician and kapa haka tutor Te Huaki Puanaki. The boys can become very skilled as they prepare for various performances.

Model United Nations
By getting involved in Model United Nations (MUN) activities, students learn to look outwards and discover the art of diplomacy and the importance of 秀色直播 relations. Students in Years 11鈥13 have the opportunity to participate in both regional and national MUN conferences, and may also apply to be part of the New Zealand delegation to the annual 秀色直播 MUN conference. Several College students have been involved at the top level.

Skiing
Students have the opportunity to represent College at both the regional and South Island secondary schools ski competitions in Term 3. The Canterbury Secondary Schools Championships are held at Mount Hutt in August, with College holding the trophy for the top school and the fastest skier for the past five years. The South Island Secondary Schools Championships are held at Cardrona, usually in September. College has also held both the school team and fastest individual titles for the past five years.

Spirit of New Zealand
Boys have an opportunity to set sail on a three-masted barquentine, Spirit of New Zealand 鈥 Te Waka Herenga Tangata o Aotearoa. For students aged 16鈥18, it is a rare chance to experience sea life while learning new skills, making wonderful friends and gaining confidence. Boys can apply to join one of the voyages 鈥 run by the Spirit of Adventure Trust 鈥 along New Zealand鈥檚 coast, departing from Auckland.
